Re: Kennywood 2010
They said the same thing a few weeks ago and they pushed the announcement back.
When I was there last week I was kind of satisfied with what they have now except for the coaster selection. It's understandable to have 3 wooden coasters for a historical landmakr amusement park, but I really think they need another steel coaster to complement Phantom's Revenge besides Exterminator.
The only downside with this idea is that there's not much of expansion area unless they pull a Hershey and use the terrain and space to their advantage.
Here are some of my ideas of what this announcement could be and couldn't be:
-A waterpark wouldn't make sense because they already own Sandcastle which is down the road.
-I strongly believe it's a new coaster since the last one added was Exterminator and that was 7 or 8 years ago. If so, then I hope for somekind of B&M, S&S Power or Intamin since those seem the most popular in the market these days.
-A new theme area would be good, but there's no space unless they modify what they already have.
Hopefully they won't let us hanging again like the last time.

Re: Kennywood 2010
I was at Kennywood on the day that they should have annouced the new attraction. It was during The Exterminator 10th Birthday Party/ACE Event. They annouced that they would make an annoucement.

There is another rumor going around that the Turnpike will be removed and a Eurofighter will be replacing it.

Re: Kennywood 2010
Although Eurofighters are unique coasters, I really wouldn't like to see a classic like the Turnpike removed...Also, wouldn't there be 3 coasters an a log flume all pushed up against one side of the park?
BTW, where did you hear this rumor?

Part of Phantom is being retracked again. Some pictures were posted on Screamscape today.

Re: Kennywood 2010
By July I expect Sky Rocket to be open (at the rate they are building it).
As a person who visited it last for the first time, I would describe the park as a combination of Hershey and Knoebels mixed into one. The park has a lot of classic rides, but also some new ones.
You can save a lot of money at Kennywood. When buying your tickets, check the park's website. Last year they cost only $28 a person. When you get to the park you can choose to either park close to the main gate (but it costs $5), or park on the 2nd or 3rd level of the parking lot. For the second level you have to take an escalator where the 3rd, you get kind of a bonus ride on the ski lift (this level wasn't open when i went so I guess it depends on the crowds).
In the park, go around the outside corner starting with Sky Rocket then to Jack Rabbit, Racer, etc. and all the rides in between. Phantom's Revenge is a MUST ride (the entrance is hard to find, but it is over by the Music Express). The best seat for the most airtime is the backseat. It's now my #1 coaster.
Don't forget to check out my trip report for pictures, and more info.
