Updated article... sad indeed. What are typical park policies on prosthetic limbs?

ARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) - An Iraq war veteran who just returned home to Gowanda in April after three years of rehab died Friday evening at Darien Lake.

Sgt. James Hackemer flew out of his seat while on the Ride of Steel at the theme park around 5:30 p.m. and died at the scene. Sgt. Hackemer lost both of his legs in Iraq in a roadside blast. He spent three years at a Boston rehab facility where he had to relearn how to talk, write, and read all over again. He returned to his native Gowanda this past April.

The ride and surrounding area were closed to the public as police investigated. Darien Lake released a statement saying their thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Sgt. Hackemer.

It depends on what the park and the ride manufacturer agree upon.

I can tell you that this guy wouldn't have been allowed to ride Fahrenheit or Storm Runner. Given how Ride of Steel has only a lapbar and maybe only a seatbelt, the guy shouldn't have been allowed to ride from the way it sounds. So this could be the ride operator's falut for not turning away the guest.
