If you remember from last year, I made a big k'nex roller coaster model for a carnival near my house. This was a success and now back by popular demand, I am going to try to go for a world record for the world's longest K'nex coaster. Suprisingly, Sandstorm was only 15 to 20 feet away from the record, so I plan to out-do that for next year. Here's what I have so far:

    12 feet tall.

Lift sort of reminds me of Millennium Force's lift. I can't believe you just tore Sandstorm apart after that hard work. But good luck on this project. Wink

To give you an idea of how much pieces I have to work with, what I have built there is less than 1/4th of the pieces I have. While Sandstorm was a great coaster, it was to big to keep for a long time in one piece and it wasn't that realistic. The lift system could've been better.

By the way, where are you storing that thing? I hope you have a place to work on it when it's raining (like this weekend).

What I did was build the lift hill section by section in my room and then took it outside and assembled it section by section into place. Right now it's in smaller sections in my room where I eventually plan on adding the first drop. For here, I'll set it up again to test it out and then store it in my grandmother's basement and start work on the next section of the coaster.

Remember that I didn't start work on Sandstorm officially until the first week of Nov. so technically I have a lot of time to finish this.

Two weeks ago I got the lift and first drop "finished". I still need to support a the drop base a little better because I had to shorten the drop (I accidentally added another 2 feet so I had to remove some pieces).
The lift is 12 feet tall.

I am going to start the next section of the coaster which will be a 8 to 9 foot Stengel Dive. This is what it looks like:
    2010 K'nex Roller Coaster Project P3231
    From rcdb.com
I wanted to have a passageway under it to allow spectators a closer look at the coaster and have it zip above, but the return track might be in the way. I'll try to build it in anyways.

From here I was thinking of adding a hammerhead turn like on Intimidator, MCBR, a couple of rabbit hops, a helix or two, then return to the station.
It may not sound much, but I hope to add a lot of scenery and detail to it such as tunnels, queue lines, and more. Here are the pictures of it so far:

Here is the finished first drop....

After a little bit of trimming, it looks better. I work on shaping it when I fully set this thing up.

There is the whole thing. I plan on starting construction on the Stengel Dive very soon.

This whole thing sounds way better than Sandstorm. I hope things go well for you. The hammerhead turn, stengel dive and interaction with people are what I think will really make this one a success.

Today seems like an excellent day to barricade myself in my room and work on the Stengel Dive while listening to Christmas music.

I am thinking about possibly releasing the name, and the rest of the details of the project on either X-Mas or New Years Day.

In other news, I cleaned the rest on the new pieces I got yeasterday.

    Update time:
As of right now I have 2/3rds of the Stengel Dive completed right now and after I'll post this update, I'll try to finish it. The height for it is 8 feet and it turns at a 15 to 20 degree angle and features a banked angle of 135 degrees. I also made the gap for people to walk under as well and after actually sticking my head under it, it seems like a pretty cool effect.

I plan on officially announcing the coaster and it's name on Christmas day along with the site improvements.
    Picture time!

After looking at what you have done, I was wondering if you may be trying to make your own version of a giga-coaster. I mention it because that first drop and Stengel dive reminds me of Millennium Force's first drop and overbanked turn. I really hate to see this thing die once you're done with it because it looks alot better than Sandstorm.

Introducing Falcon... Taking to the Skies in 2010. Here's the release:

For 2010, this will be possibly the last display I will do for the Community Days Carnival and I have something big in-store. Let me introduce you to Falcon; a 12 foot tall, 200ft+ long K'nex roller coaster. This creation will be the world's longest, tallest non-launched, complete circuit behemoth.

"Riders" will leave the loading platform and head up a 3 foot lift hill and then drop into several helixes and curves and then climb a 12 foot tall monsterous lift then drop at an angle of 85 degrees then soar into the air through an 8 ft tall 135 degree banked small curve called a Stengel Dive. Riders will then drop then rise into a 6 foot tall hammerhead turn and soar into a mid-course brake run.

Following the brake run will be plenty of rabbit hops sure to produce many moments of negative g's. The grand finalie will be two helixes and then into the final brake run.

I plan on experimenting with some new systems that have never been added to a K'nex coaster such as the use of a modeling motor, and custom lift chain for the major lift hill, the use of magnets for the final brake run.

Falcon will officially take to the skies on June 28th, 2010 and will also feature more informative displays and possibly more! Keep checking this page for updates on construction.
